Our school community is solid because
we maintain solid connections
with our neighborhood community.
One of the main tenets of LaFayette Big Picture is to connect students with community members, and to make sure that students learn to take an active role in their community. Each year, students provide community service through organizing and taking part in events and fundraisers and from volunteering assistance for community projects. Students have been involved with several community endeavors:
Along with community service projects, students give back to their community through the work they do at internships. In order to thank mentors who have taken them under their wing, students complete work and design and complete projects that will benefit the internship site. With students as our ambassadors, the school has built strong partnerships with local area businesses and organizations.
Organizations who have hosted student interns include: American Red Cross, Brighton Hill Pediatrics, C. Grant Grimshaw Elementary, Children’s Therapy Network, Crouse Hospital, Family Health Center of Tully, Habitat for Humanity, Inter-faith Works, Iroquois Nursing Home, LaFayette After School Program, LaFayette Apple Fest, LaFayette Fire Department, LaFayette Public Library, LaFayette Veterinary Clinic, Make-a-Wish, Monarch Farms, OCM Boces, Onondaga County DA’s Office, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Dept., Onondaga Nation School, Salvation army, Skaneateles Conservation Association, United Way, the VA Hospital, and many more.
Students at LaFayette Big Picture also participate in local programs, events, and play on local athletic teams.
